Five Useful Tips That will Foil Any Bank Scam Attempts

Recently, there has been a growing number of bank scam victims.  Most bank scams are hard to trace and prosecute. So, the victim ended up losing his hard-earned money to the fraudster.

I am sure we do not want to be in that position.  So, let us be smarter than scammers.  Knowing how to deal with the early signs of bank scams will save us from risking our fortune.

In this post, I will present some useful tips that will immediately foil fraudster from making his first move.

Tips to Avoid Being Scammed

1.  Do not open any suspicious email or link.

Scammers will trick you to believe that there are unauthorized activities in your bank account by sending you an email to verify your account.  Do not open the link.  It will open to a fake website and will get your bank credentials.

2.  Ignore calls or text messages from untrusted callers or senders.

Do not entertain people you do not know, who are asking your personal information over the phone.

3.  Enroll your account for online banking.

Online banking makes it easier for you to access your account, 24/7,  to regularly monitor your account's transaction/s.

 4.  Do not lose your phone.

Your phone can be an avenue for fraudsters to access your account.  Always sign out after accessing your bank's online banking system or never write any password on your phone.

5.  Transact with reputable online sellers.

When making online purchase, keep an eye for fake accounts copying the names and photos of a real online shop. Whenever applicable, pay in cash upon delivery of the item to avoid disclosure of your credit card information.

How to know if you are dealing with a scammer?

Remember that your bank will NEVER ask your account credentials via phone call, text, or email.

So the tell-tale sign of a scam is when someone asks your username, passwords, account number or One-Time Password (OTP), etc.

Consider this:  your banking credentials are the only means to access your account and giving this information to scammers is just like permitting them to rob your money.

Following the tips above may help you deal with scammers and will keep your hard-earned money tucked safely inside the bank's vault.

Do you have any tips about beating bank scammers?  If you do, please comment them down below.  I am sure a lot of us will find it useful.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is the new 51Talk Philippine Brand Ambassador

Pia Wurtzbach interviews candidates who wish to be part of online English platform 51Talk.

Manila, Philippines – 51Talk, together with their new Philippine brand ambassador, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, held its first-ever live stream interview via Facebook after hundreds of aspiring online English teachers signed-up to get a chance to be part of the show.

The live stream is part of 51Talk’s campaign to invite qualified Filipinos who are interested to take advantage of the 30,000 home-based online teaching opportunities offered by 51Talk where people can teach, learn and most importantly – earn.

Listed in the New York Stock Exchange, 51Talk is the leading online English education platform that connects thousands of Filipino teachers to foreign English language learners via an interactive virtual classroom.

More than 70,000 viewers tuned in and joined the fun and inspiring live stream which allowed them to learn more about the teach at home opportunity and acquainted them with the application process that can be completed in as fast as three days.

Pia interviewed nine pre-selected candidates from different backgrounds who shared their heartwarming stories on how they found hope in 51Talk after losing their jobs or livelihood.

Several of the candidates expressed how the pandemic has affected their current livelihood, especially those who belong to the travel and events industries.

Paula, a professional dancer and instructor who has been performing and teaching for 14 years, had a lot of her events and classes cancelled due to COVID-19. She came across the 51Talk online teaching opportunity and decided to give it a shot since she has teaching experience.

“I want to be able to translate my teaching skills from dance and performance arts into teaching English. I just love sharing what I know and see my students grow into the best versions of themselves,” shared Paula.

Trina, a professional events host, found herself in the same boat as a lot of her hosting gigs were cancelled or postponed indefinitely.

“While the situation we are in can be very disheartening, I decided to try out as a 51Talk teacher and I’m happy that I made it to this fun interview with no less than Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach!” exclaimed Trina. Trina gave the viewers a taste of her fun, entertaining energy as she sang songs both in English and Chinese

Pearl, another one of the candidates, candidly shared how the past few months have been very tough for those in the travel industry. She was about to return as a flight attendant after her maternity leave but her retraining was put on hold as travel restrictions are still in place. Having no income, Pearl said she had to find a stable and sustainable livelihood that would allow her to help her husband, especially now that they have their first child.

“When I learned about the opportunity in 51Talk, it gave me hope and made me revisit my childhood dream of becoming an educator,” shared Pearl. “Even if I don’t have any teaching experience, I didn’t hesitate to sign-up. I borrowed my sister’s laptop just so I could apply. I’m very excited to start teaching in 51Talk.”

According to 51Talk teacher Angelo Lex who co-hosted the show, being an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher is very profitable as he gets to earn at the comfort and safety of his own home in his preferred schedule. He also shared his excitement when he learned of the platform’s recent announcement about the 20 million pesos incentive program exclusively for 51Talk teachers this month.

Pia felt ecstatic and inspired since this is her first stint in interviewing candidates online. “It’s a humbling experience to interview such incredible candidates from all walks of life, to hear their unique stories and to witness how talented and passionate they all are,” shared Pia.

Towards the end of the show, Pia said she was moved after hearing the story of one of the candidates, Pearl, the flight attendant who borrowed her sister’s laptop just so she could sign-up to be a teacher at 51Talk. Pia surprised everyone as she decided to personally give Pearl a laptop to help her get started in her online teaching career.

“We see your hard work and we’re very sorry for what you’re going through as a young mom. I find you very engaging and who has so much potential,” said Pia.

“It’s such an honor to represent 51Talk as their brand ambassador and to be able to connect to thousands of Filipinos through this live stream. I hope it inspired them and gave them joy.”

Pia considers empowering Filipinos as her top advocacy, now more than ever when thousands of Filipinos have lost their livelihood due to the pandemic.

“I am encouraging all qualified individuals to sign-up and to seize this wonderful livelihood opportunity. See you in our next live stream!” exclaimed Pia.

The Complete Guide To Filing A Car Insurance Claim

Friday, July 24, 2020

Getting involved in a vehicular accident is stressful The ordeal starts the moment you wait for the traffic investigator to arrive. In the Philippines, sometimes waiting for an investigator takes longer.

You entertain a lot of thoughts, from being thankful that you are unharmed, thinking many “what-ifs” that could have been avoided, to the financial aspect of the accident.

Recently, our car was hit by an ambulance and I was thankful that I do not have to mind the financial headache brought about by this unforeseen event.

Knowing the process of filing an insurance claim will help you get your reimbursement faster.

In this post, I will discuss my experience filing a car insurance (on-damage) claim to BPI/MS Insurance Corporation.

Generally, “on-damage” or Comprehensive insurance shoulders not only the cost of loss or damage to your vehicle but also your passengers from road-related risks and hazards. While only the Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) is required in the Philippines, it is highly recommended to get a comprehensive insurance.

Please take note that most car insurance companies in the Philippines have different requirements and processes in filing an insurance claim. It is best to refer your specific concerns to your insurer.

What are the documents needed for an insurance claim?

Remember to stay calm, although this is impossible to do when you are involved in an accident. You may remain patient while waiting for the Traffic Investigator to arrive until the investigation procedure is done.

You should get your Police Report and Driver’s License ID from the Traffic Investigator on the second day of the incident. The rest of the documents are with you and all you need to do is have those photocopied.

You should submit the following documents to your insurer immediately so they can start processing your claim.

        1.  Police Report

        2.  Photocopy of the vehicle's Certificate of Registration (CR)

        3.  Photocopy of the current Official Receipt (OR) of the vehicle's registration                            renewal

        4.  Photocopy of the Driver's License ID

        5.  Repair Estimate from a reputable shop

What is next after I submitted my documents?

The insurance company will inspect and take pictures of the car damage as well as the vehicle’s Motor and Serial Number. Then, they will start processing your claim.

How long should I wait for my insurance claim?

Approval of insurance claim takes 3-5 working days and 8 working days for claims of 100 K below and more than 100 K, respectively.

The insurance provider will inform you of the insurance claim approval. You may coordinate the schedule of repair immediately with the approved machine shop.

My experience filing a claim with BPI/MS

BPI/MS delivered what they promised. I got the approval of my insurance claim on the 8th day of the submission of the documents. It helped that the Head Office approval, which is required for my claim was processed electronically, so it was sent in real-time.

Now, that you know the general idea of how a car insurance claim is processed, you should feel more relaxed the next time your car is into trouble.

But, if you think you are still unsure, please feel free to contact any of my social media accounts. I am willing to help you get your insurance claim faster.

Our Car was Hit by a Rushing Ambulance / Why it is Important to Get a Car Insurance

Saturday, July 18, 2020

That was a bad day. After almost 8 months since we got our 2020 Nissan Terra, the car was hit by a rushing ambulance.

We were driving leisurely taking Lacson Street, in Bacolod City, Philippines, after bringing our youngest daughter to work when suddenly I heard a sound. I pulled over and got out immediately.

It turned out, my car's rear portion was hit by a rushing ambulance. The impact damaged severely the rear door, including the rear bumper and the tail light assembly. But we were spared. Nothing happened to us during the collision.

The damage was severe that it needs the back door to be replaced.

I am thankful that the glass window was unharmed.

The rear tail light assembly needs replacement.

Being involved in a traffic accident is both tedious and time-consuming. Aside from submitting myself to a Traffic Investigation, it is difficult being carless for two weeks while our car is under repair, especially now that public transport is limited because of the pandemic.

However, I am comforted by the thought that we were unharmed and my car insurance took care of the car repair.

How much is car insurance for a month?

Getting car insurance is very important. My insurer gave me a free one-year insurance on the first year. I will pay forty thousand pesos in the succeeding year. That’s roughly around three thousand three hundred pesos per month. Thankfully, the insurance cost diminishes as the car gets older.

I save a fortune from just paying so little, in fact, I paid nothing, since the accident happened on the first year. The car repair amounts to three hundred thousand pesos. That was a whopping three hundred thousand pesos savings to my wallet.

The next question is : Do we really a need car insurance?

Yes, the right car insurance coverage will protect your vehicle, yourself, and your passengers during traffic accidents and other calamities. Here are some of the benefits of having a car insurance.

1. Protection from costly car repair

Comprehensive insurance coverage may help pay for car repair during accidents, or car damage due to a collision. It may also replace a brand new vehicle in cases of a stolen car.

2. Pay little and benefit more

Car insurance protects you from huge expenses. By paying a small amount now you can avoid costly expenses in the future.

3. Financial Protection

With the right insurance coverage, you will be saved from paying out of your own pocket the aggrieved parties' medical expenses or lost income.

4. Self and passengers' protection

The best car insurance protects you and your loved ones during an accident. Insurance coverage may also take care of the property or bodily injury costs.

5. Saves time

Managing the cost of repair or vehicle replacement can be time-consuming and tedious. Likewise, finding the best car repair shop and negotiating the cheapest cost is difficult. A good car insurance company will save you from these headaches.

Having the right car insurance policy is more than a legal requirement. Good insurance coverage will save your wallet and give you peace of mind.

What is your car insurance coverage?  Please share your experience about how you benefits from it in the Comment Section below.
